REPORT & RESULTS
The ANZAC Challenge 2015 was a tough Race
Congratulations everyone that took the Challenge yesterday – 19 of you in total. The verdict is, the race was tough. Very tough!
The amazing thing is, not one gave up. Despite the difficult nature of the race, you all finished in amazing style. That includes Arthur who crossed the finish line 3hrs after the winner, in a time of 3hrs 53mins. His wife Line, second to last finisher was ahead of Arthur in 2hrs 53mins. And son Gideon 11yrs was 40mins ahead of his mother. After Gideon finished his race, he then walked back up to RLS Grave to walk back down with his father.
Arthur and Line deserve a special mention because they were told to bypass the Gallipoli hill to the summit. When they got there, they each separately decided the hill was to be climbed as part of the race.
There are several races we organise up Mt Vaea – the ANZAC Challenge will be the only race that starts in Beach Rd and finishes at the RLS Museum. The other two races – King of Vaea (Sept) and Scotsman’s Trail go the other way (Sept).
The climb up to the summit was a big challenge. Thank you for the feedback on how to improve this part of the event. If you have any other comment to offer to make it better please send me a note.
Congratulations to Steve Nimarota who pipped his brother Sam at the finish to win by 1 sec. Sam and Steve ran the entire race together until the final assault of the line.
It was close too in the Women’s race for second place, where Lauren finished 12secs ahead of Ariane. Andrea however secured her third win in the BOC Run Series with a commanding performance in the Women’s race. Ella Buckley finished fourth in her second run of the Series.
Series points – Shane and Andrea are the respective leaders at present. Shane has run all five races and leads Darren who did not race yesterday. The Series Points in the end will be the best of five results – there are three races of the BOC Handigas Run Series left – Lalomanu Half Marathon (July), King of Vaea (Sept) and the final event of the year for us, which is the Falefa Run Challenge. Thanks again for taking part, below are your results from yesterday.
