Savai'i's own Marathon, and its a Point to Point course for all distances. No loops, start at one end and finish at the other.
MARATHONDistance 42.2 kms / 26.2miles
Start line, Fagamalo Lava Fields Meeting point - Tyre Shop at Lava Field Finish, Salelologa SSAB / ANZ Complex The Course starts at the famous Savaii Lava fields and finishes 42kms later at the capital of Savaii, Salelologa Village. 10kms, Two climbs The first 5kms involves a climb in one of three hills on this course. The climb is gradual from sea level to to 73m ASL. The second 5kms takes the runner back up to 75ms ASL. This is the highest point of the run. 10-20kms The descend back down to sea level starts from the 10km mark. There are a couple of rises along the way to the sea. 20-30kms You are now on the coast and running on flat surface all the way to the finish. You are joined at 21kms by the Half Marathon runners and the 10km runners at the 32km mark of the marathon. 30-42kms Mostly flat. Entry to Salelologa village. When you see the singular traffic light on the island - turn left there, and the finish is 500m away. |
HALF MARATHONDistance, 21.1 kms / 13.2miles
Start line, Pu'apu'a Village Meeting point - Asaga Coffee Shop Finish, Salelologa SSAB / ANZ Complex It is exactly 21.1 kms from the coastal village of Pu'apu'a to Salelologa. The run is flat and scenic for the first 11kms and then the road veers away from the coast for the remainder of the race. One the way the 10km runners will join in, then the 5km runners at Lalomalava village. 1-11kms The course is smooth and flat and scenic. 11-21kms The course veers inland a bit, but is still close to the coast. The last 11 kms there are dips and in the road to the finish but mainly flat. |
